UNDERSTANDING THE MAN NETWORK
(METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK)
Metropolitan
Area Network (MAN) is a network within a city with high speed data transfer
that connects various locations such as, offices, government universities,
shopping centers and so on.
Below are the characteristics of
MAN Network:
1.
Covers an area between 5 and 50 km range. Many MAN Networks cover urban areas.
2.
A MAN network (such as a WAN) is generally not owned by an organization. The
MAN network, its linked communications and equipment, are generally owned by
either a user consortium or by a network service provider that sells services
to users.
3.
MAN networks often act as high speed networks to allow sharing of regional
resources. It is also often used to provide shared connections for other
networks by using links to WANs.
4.
MAN networks are larger and typically use the same technology as LAN networks.
5.
It has only one or two cables and no switching elements, which serves to manage
packets through multiple cable outputs. The presence of switching elements
makes the design simpler.
MAN Topology |
Network
MAN itself is defined as a network that covers a city. Initially, the network
of MAN network is connected by using LAN cable to connect one office to another
branch which is several KM apart, with WIMAX presence, internet service users
are increasingly interested in MAN-scale Wireless. How to list wifi id
telkomsel. The pre-Wimax equipment (IEEE 802.16) is a device specially designed
for wireless-scaled MAN, an example of this equipment is AN-30 AN-30 Redline,
Alvarion Link Blaster. Wireless MAN can play on multiple frequencies of 900
MHz, 1.5 GHz, 2 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.3 GHz, 5.8 GHz. And Currently in Indonesia
which permits the government to be used by the general public is 2.4GHz
frequency which is then subdivided into several channels,On this occasion the
authors assume we use IEEE 802.11b to design a wireless network scale MAN
(Metropolitan Area Network) using 2.4GHz frequency.
Each
country has different rules in the use of the channel above, for example, for
some regions in the United States, can only use Channels 1 to channel 11,
dieropa menggunkan kanal 1 to 13, while Japan itself has a high level of
technology only play on channel 14 . For WiFi labeled 802.11b using Direct
Sequence Spread Spectrum Modulation (DSSS), a 22MHz wide spectrum for every
radiating station will appear. read also how to list wifi id telkomsel.
Can
be seen above one channel will be widened down 11MHz and will widen 11MHz
upwards until the total spectrum is taken is 22MHz, it will certainly take two
channels above and 2 channels below so that the channel is used as many as 5
channels, so if we want to build this network there let us free / not use 2
channel below and 2 channel above from channel that you use to free from
inteference.

Non-Overlapping Channel Set
Non
overlapping Channel is a set of channels that is predicted to set frequency /
frequency separator and can be used together in the same time without any
interfrensi, non-overlapping channel working on RF link.
In
the picture it is clear that the channels used in the same time are channel 1,
channel 6 and channel 11 located at 2412MHz, 2437MHz and 2462MHz frequencies.
In this picture interference does not occur (visible from the absence of a
chunk of frequency between frequencies with one frequency of the other).
Basically
we can not only be based on 3 channel frekuesi it, we can also use 4 channels
at once in the same time, this can be done if the coverage of the targeted area
more broadly so that required 4 different channels.
The
use of these 4 Channels can indeed reach a wider area but there will be little
interference on each channel, you can see in the schematic above, seen line
pieces on each channel diagram that indicates the existence of interference.
Advantages of MAN Network:
1.
The central office server can serve as the data center of the branch office.
2.
Real-Time Transactions (data on the central server is updated on the spot, eg
ATM Bank for the national territory)
3.
Inter-office communication can use e-mail, chat
4.
Video Conference (ViCon).
Loss
of Network MAN:
1.
Expensive operational costs.
2.
Installation of infrastructure is not easy.
3.
Complicated if there is trouble network (network trouble shoot)
